Mia stopped at a small supermarket after work because she needed bread, apples, and milk. She was tired, so she paid quickly and put the receipt in her bag without looking at the counter.

When she left the shop, she tried to call her brother. Her phone was not in her coat pocket. She checked her bag, but she only found her keys, the receipt, and one apple that had escaped from the paper bag.

Mia did not panic. She returned to the cashier and said, “I think I left my phone here.” The cashier remembered her because she had just paid by card. He looked near the card reader and asked, “Was it black?”

Mia heard a short vibration before she answered. Her phone was lying beside the card reader, half covered by the receipt. She felt silly, but she also felt relieved because she had gone back immediately.

Before she left again, Mia put the phone in a pocket with a zip. She also decided to check the counter every time she paid, especially when she was tired.
