Ella and Tom have one week to prepare a presentation about blue whales. Their teacher wants more than a collection of facts: the class should be able to understand why these animals are . Ella, who enjoys illustration, proposes a large poster. Tom volunteers to research the information and prepare speaking notes.

On Monday, they meet in the library. Tom discovers that an adult blue whale can be longer than a city bus, so Ella draws one alongside a small boat for comparison. They also agree to explain what whales eat rather than fill the poster with difficult scientific terms.

Their plan is on Tuesday when Tom wakes up with a fever. Ella initially panics; she cannot finish both the research and the drawings alone. After exchanging messages, they find a solution. Tom can write from home, and Ella can send him photographs of the developing poster so he knows how much space is available.

By Thursday, they have enough material, but the poster looks . They remove details that are interesting but unnecessary, check their and rewrite the longest sentences. Ella then adds arrows and labels to make the relationship between the pictures and text easier to follow.

On Friday, a classmate asks how such a huge animal survives on tiny sea creatures. Tom uses his notes to explain. Their teacher compliments the clear structure and the way they adapted when things went wrong. Ella is proud of the drawings, but even more pleased that they learned to each other.
