By Wednesday, Lena has had a sore throat and a but mild cough for several days. Although she can eat and drink normally, talking all day at work is becoming uncomfortable. She decides that making an appointment at her local health centre would be rather than continuing to worry.

The receptionist offers her a consultation at ten the following morning. Lena checks whether it a meeting, then rearranges her schedule and confirms the appointment. She makes a quick note of when the symptoms began, knowing she might forget the details once she is in the consulting room.

The doctor listens as Lena describes her symptoms and asks questions about her energy levels, temperature and ability to drink. After examining her, she explains that the symptoms appear mild but that Lena should pay attention to any changes. Lena appreciates being given a clear explanation rather than simply being told not to worry.

They discuss practical steps Lena can take at home, including resting and staying . The doctor also explains which changes would mean Lena should seek further advice. Before leaving, Lena repeats the main points in her own words so she can check she has understood correctly.

On her way home, Lena sends her sister a reassuring message and cancels an evening outing to give herself time to recover. The appointment has not instantly made her feel better, but it has made her less uncertain. She now understands what to and when to ask for help again.
